Answer: Best practice is to caption all videos and we recommend building a line for captioning in your budget. View vendor information and tools and tutorials for resources on adding captions to your videos. At a minimum, you must include an access statement allowing individuals to request captions for a disability-related reason if the video has not been captioned yet. If you receive a request from a participant for captions, please contact drc-communicationaccess@arizona.edu.

*Note: Projects created using a script can be captioned inexpensively, and it is less expensive to add captions from the onset rather than adding them after the fact when a request is received

Answer: To proactively provide access for all participants, it is recommended that you enable auto-captioning (machine-generated) within your event platform, if this is an available option.

  • All event information should disclose the use of auto-captioning.
  • Include a disability access statement to allow participants to request disability-related accommodations if auto-captioning is not sufficient.
  • If your UA sponsored event includes a large number of students and/or employees, please contact DRC for consultation about disability access.
